Orange County is built for a dog and a person. Half-day beaches. Quiet bay walks. Coffee shops that don't blink when you bring a 70-pound dog onto the patio. Here's our short list.
Dog Beaches That Hit Different
Huntington Dog Beach
The classic. Wide open. Off-leash. Full send. Huntington Dog Beach is perfect if your pup loves to run wild, meet new friends, and chase waves like it’s his full-time job.
Newport Beach Back Bay
If you're more into peaceful vibes, the Back Bay offers chill trails with gorgeous views. Keep the leash on, but it’s worth it for sunset walks and a little mental reset for both of you.
Parks and Trails for the Adventurous
Laguna Coast Wilderness Park
For the active explorers. Miles of trails, rugged views, and enough space to make you both forget you live in a city. Heads up, keep dogs leashed and bring water.
Irvine Regional Park
Weekend warrior? Irvine Regional is perfect for a full-day adventure. Shady trails, picnic spots, and even paddle boats if you want to switch it up (dogs allowed on leashed boats!).
Cafes and Bars Where Dogs Are Always Welcome
Canines & Cocktails Nights at the Wild Goose Costa Mesa
Dog-friendly happy hour. Enough said. Bring your pup, grab a cocktail, and meet a few like-minded humans while your dogs sort out their own social scene.
Pet-Friendly Coffee Shops
Some local favorites to check out:
- Kit Coffee – Great espresso, patio always packed with pups.
- Neat Coffee – Small, stylish, and always dog-welcoming.
- Sidecar Doughnuts (Costa Mesa) – Worth it for the vibe and the doughnuts. Just grab a patio seat and vibe.
A Few Etiquette Tips to Keep It Cool
- Always check leash rules (even at beaches!)
- Bring your own water and waste bags, don’t be that guy
- Read your dog’s vibe: not every Good Boy is down for a party
- Respect the locals. We’re guests at every trail, beach, and café.
- When in doubt, low-key and respectful always wins.
- Things change so always check before you head out to any of these locations
